How a Mindset Shift Helped Me See My True Progress

Learn to Focus on Gains Over Gaps and Transform Your Perspective

It’s so easy to lose sight of how far you have come.

We get so focused on the difficulties of the day-to-day that we forget how much progress we have made.

I was in that mindset.

Thinking that I wasn’t pushing towards my goals enough.

Honestly, feeling like I have failed in my mental health practice.

Worrying that my diaper bag wouldn’t be close to what I envisioned it to be.

I was consumed with feelings of disappointment in myself, but I was listening to the book, "10x Is Easier than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing Less” by Dan Sullivan with Dr. Benjamin Hardy, and they talked about the gap and the gain.

It was like a light bulb went off.

The Gap can be explained as a state in which you compare what is to what should be.

Here are a few of my gaps:

I used to feel like I wasn’t a good enough mom because my house wasn’t clean enough compared to those on social media.

I kept feeling like I wasn’t a successful group practice owner because I had 4 employees versus others who started after me and were hiring by what felt like in droves.

I don’t want to live in the gap.

I want to focus on the gain.

The Gain is the state in which you measure yourself against yourself.

I realized that by doing this I am not judging myself so harshly.

In 12 months…

I have reduced the anxiety and stress I was feeling as a mom.

In 12 months…

I found myself and now embrace who I am while enjoying motherhood.

In 12 months…

I started a new business that wasn’t even a thought and now it’s a reality.

By looking at my life from the perspective of the Gain, I realized how much I have progressed in such a short period of time.

If you have struggled with the same thoughts or feelings, I hope you take the time to acknowledge how far you have come.

Here are a couple of Gains for Harpson Co.

  • The first sample has been completed.

  • We are having the material of the cooler (at the bottom) changed.

  • We are looking into a two-toned bag (one color looks boring).

  • We are working on a new logo design.

Looking at things from a Gain perspective, you will see how much progress you have made.

I would love to hear your gains in the last 12 months, 6 months, or even in the last week.

Until next time,

Jessica
